Turbo Kid (Review)
Michael Scott
Unlike the pretentious and abysmally confusing mess that is "Ink" and the plotless cinematography driven circle-jerk that is "The Neon Demon", "Turbo Kid" is a low-budget movie done right.
Despite being somewhat too gory for my taste, especially in contrast to the relatively kid-friendly dialogue and characters, the movie succeeds in creating a fun, likeable atmosphere. It reminds me most of "Hobo with a shotgun" with it's strange apocalyptic wasteland and roves of armor-clad psychopaths.
It's short and for what appears to be a bare-bones budget movie, the costumes and SFX are pretty dang good. The worst parts of the movie are the dubious CGI set-dressing and the aforementioned needless obsession with grotesque (if comedic) dismemberment.
If you have an evening free, or a girl to impress who likes this kind of stuff, "Turbo Kid" is (for lack of a better word) cute.
