Milennial Powerpuff Girls - (Episode 7, Season 3)

There’s no shortage of superhero shows on tv, and the number has only increased with the success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC films. But to this day I think Powerpuff Girls is likely in the top 3 best animated superhero shows, and probably the top 5 including live-action. During its original run, the show won two Annie awards, two Prime Time Emmy awards, and was nominated for a dozen more. The adventures of Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup hold up independently from nostalgia.

But life’s never that simple.

The CW decided that they were going to greenlight a live-action reboot of the PPG in an attempt to cash in on the changing tastes and the nostalgia of the millennials who grew up watching the show. The script for the pilot leaked, penned by Diablo Cody (Juno) and….wow, it’s really something…

The amazing part is that the script is so bad that it almost feels intentional. The cringe-inducing “how do you do fellow kids” aspect of the whole thing feels wildly inappropriate for a played-straight superhero show, and the oversexed, jaded, and telegraphed nature of the pilot smells fishy.

Maybe I’m being overly charitable, but part of me wants to believe that Cody leaked the script herself in order to drive up hype for the show. After all, I wouldn’t have given it a second look if it wasn’t for this leak and now…here I am

This episode of X Reader is as close to breaking-news as we may ever get, and it’s a doozy.

NOTE: It probably due to the larger file size for this episode it is an embedded link instead of a direct file which may cause some issues for some listeners. If you have trouble playing or downloading the episode, please check out X Reader on Apple Podcasts or Spotify.

UPDATE: Before the publishing of this episode, CW announced that the show’s pilot would be rewritten, which, much like Sonic’s CGI makeover is both a blessing and a curse.
