Godzilla Resurgence (Review)

Michael Scott

"Godzilla Resurgence". My thoughts on the movie aside, the fact that I got to see a Japanese Godzilla movie in a theater full of Godzilla fans was so awesome. Everyone cheered when the Toho logo hit the screen.

If you're not a Godzilla fan, honestly, there's not much that will sway you. The American Godzilla remake that came out in 2014 was a much better introduction to the character than this one was. While the 2014 movie was an actual story with characters and direction, this one was more of a social/political criticism of Japanese government that just happened to have Godzilla in some parts.

And I say "some parts" intentionally. The King of the Monsters is only on screen for a grand total of about 5 minutes in this movie. That's not hyperbole. I have a feeling that the budget for this movie was diminutive compared to the American one, and because of that they slashed his role down to a fraction of what it should have been.

In conclusion, this movie is for fans of big G only. It is the quintessential Godzilla movie. Tons of people talking in boring rooms, outdated CGI, bad english acting (not dub, acting) and a disturbing lack of kaiju. It's not the worst Godzilla movie by far, but it's definitely not the best.

Damn, Godzilla is an ugly boy in this movie though. Fair warning.
