Beetlejuice (Review)
Michael Scott
Yeah, I know it's an old movie, but that's what I do. And more than that, it was on my list. Oh that's right this is new.
My list is a note on my phone that just has a huge list of movies that I am trying to watch. Most of them are movies I have not seen before, but a couple are ones I just haven't seen since I was a little kid. This happens to be one of the latter.
"Beetlejuice" (spelled Betelguese in the movie) is a supernatural horror-comedy from a time when Winona Ryder and Alec Baldwin weren't fat. Yeah, okay maybe that's harsh, but it gives you an idea, right?
Anywho, the movie is basically about a couple who find themselves unexpectedly dead and they must deal with the trials and tribulations that comes with the territory. Including but not limited to sandworms, not being able to leave their house, aaaaaaaand the living.
The movie actually gets its title from a character who isn't really in the movie all that much. Beetlejuice himself serves as a secondary antagonist and really only does anything in the last act.
Despite being a bit of a cult classic, it's not one of my favorites. Nightmare Before Christmas (written by Tim Burton) does the whole unconventional Halloween thing better, and Return of the Living Dead does dead people funnier. That being said, I don't think it's a bad movie, It's just that most of what remember liking as a kid (the special effects) are the exact same things I liked this time around.
Pictured: Probably the best part of the movie.
